![]() The fix was not under warrenty, so it cost me $390.00, but IMHO, it was WELL WORTH IT! Very quite - at last! They installed the tensioner as detailed in the TSB and BINGO! This is the first time my truck has not rattled! The truck has rattled since new - I always thought it was lifter/rocker noise. Gave it to the dealer service rep when I dropped off my '92 V6 Dakota at 80,000 miles. If you have a 3.9L V6, HAVE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER INSTALLED!! I ran a copy of the "Magnum V6 - Timing Chain TSB" (found on SpeedTweaks - Tips and Tricks webpage). and i heard that it could be the compressor rattling, but hell if i know cause now i have flowmasters on my truck i cant hear it as much.lol I have a 97 dak v6 and i have the same prob. I SHOULD ONLY RUN 87 ITS A BRAND NEW TRUCK! the loud knock is gone but i still hear a faint rapp ocassionalyÄOES ANYBODY KNOW OR HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS TO MY PROBLEM The only kicker is that they say my truck is too "new" and they dont have the soft wear The dealership said that it was a timing issueĪnd since my truck was all computerized they would have to go into the computer to fix the timing It almost sounded like it was valve tapping or i threw a rod ![]() Yes i have a 2001 3.9 v6 and i was getting a rapping almost knocking sound out of the engine You'll find it under "Tips and Tricks" then just look for the "Magnum V6 Timing chain TSB" For more info on what is involved check out for a description. The dealer TSB regarding this issue also calls for replacing the timing chain when installing the new tensioner so plan on that when you decide to do the job. Yes,what you've been told is correct. There is a tensioner availableand the installation difficulty is essentially the same as replacing the timing chain, approx. Has anyone installed this tensioner and was it difficult to install? Thanks! ![]() I've been told it's the timing chain and that it's a common problem with the V-6, and that Dodge has a timing chain tensioner that will take care of the problem. It sounds like a taping similar to the sound of a bad lifter, but the noise is diffently coming from the front of the engine. When the engine idles, there is a rattle coming from the front of the engine. ![]()
